Well we did it!

We came on the last flight out of Atlanta to Belize City on Sunday morning (March 20th) before the Covid 19 crisis gripped the world.
It was a very lite travel day - all of us got upgraded (thank you Delta)! even our three dogs. We enlisted a friend to come help us take our third dog to Belize (one dog per person), and got her a hotel and return on the last flight out of Belize monday morning. We arrived in the 95 degree heat only to be met with the Health Department screening people from the USA and other hot spots. A virus case was just announced out on the Cayes from a women from LA - so we were all suspects now! after being asked to return from where we came as one option, and the other taking a van to Belize City for a two week quarantine in a HOT shelter. Some people took the first option - including our friend Jane who was already booked (and she eventually did get out the next day) but most stood tough and said that we would quarantine ourselves in our own homes if they’d just open the GATE. After 5 hours of heat, they let us out.

We are now happy to report we have moved into our little rental house in Bullet Tree Falls village and setting up house preparing for whatever is next. Of course Gail, being a super girl scout, has been out stocking up on canned food, water, dog food and beans and rice. I prepared a little set of photos to educate my nieces and nephews where in the world is Uncle Nevy! Thought you guys may enjoy it.

The blue dot is our new location - outside San Ignacio, Belize

We have been back and forth to Belize starting construction on our new home since the beginning of the year. We have a car and some friends and an amazing amount of luck all wrapped up into a new beginning for our second 25 years. We (Gail) figured that with the virus approaching, we needed to get our ASAP and we booked our flights and finished packing our house - leaving our final guest, Gabe at Bear Manor to supervise the junk removal, charity donation and our movers coming to take our 2000 cf of critical stuff to Belize. Amazingly enough - after two months, and two sets of bribes, it make it . We have faith we have done the right thing.

I wanted you to have an idea of where the hell Nevin and Gail have gone, and to give you a geography lesson in these days of no school no work no idea of what’s next. Wish us luck and we wish you all the best and healthy tomorrows. We will miss you all - but we will keep in touch and hope one day to welcome you down the western highway to Bear Manor Belize, up on the Mopan River in San Ignacio -
